What is an OV SSL certificate?
An OV SSL Certificate, short for Organization Validation SSL Certificate, is the name for one of three SSL validation levels.
SSL certificates add encryption to data transmission and verify the domain that then provides more security while surfing. A certification authority performs a check of various types of data, before issuing the certificate. In addition to the domain an OV certificates check not only the identity of its owner or the organisation behind the website, but also name, address and so on. The Secure Site OV SSL certificate displays a lock in the browser address bar once the verification of the website is complete, which in turn confirms to users that the website is trustworthy. This does mean that acquiring an Organization Validation (OV) SSL is imperative.

OV SSL - FAQ
The nature of your website and your desired level of security will determine which kind of SSL certificate is suitable for your purpose. A DV SSL certificate is more than sufficient for smaller projects and for private use for example. Whereas you should consider an advanced certificate type, i.e. OV SSL or EV SSL, if your scope is more complex or larger. A high level of security is guaranteed with both of these certificates. Even better is the EV variant, as it has the browser address line coloured green which indicates the highest level of protection. It also displays your company name to users, specifies the seriousness of your website.
It usually takes a few business days to verify an OV SSL certificate. Of course the more effort that is put in to verifying your data, the longer it takes to install your chosen certificate on your website.
