With a Managed WordPress installation, IONOS takes care of recurring routine and security tasks, among other things. This article tells you about the most important points to consider when switching from Managed WordPress to another IONOS WordPress variant.

Update WordPress Core, themes, plugins and translations

The update behaviour of standard WordPress versions is set in the WordPress administration under Updates. Plugins, themes and translations that can be updated are also displayed in the same place.

You can activate or deactivate automatic plugin updates under Plugins. To do this, click on the corresponding entry in the Automatic updates column in the plugin overview.

For advanced users: The update behaviour of the WordPress main program (core) can also be controlled via an entry in wp-config.php. The WordPress Developer Resources provide further information on the corresponding options.

Update PHP version

WordPress requires the PHP programming language for operation, which is constantly being improved and expanded. For the highest possible security and performance, it is therefore necessary to always switch to the latest PHP version. The Help Centre article Display or change PHP versions explains the procedure.

Webspace and database backup

The data required for the operation of WordPress is stored in your web space and a database. The Help Centre article Create regular Backups provides information on how to back up your web space and database.
