With the Jitsi integration within the Managed Nextcloud app, you can use the free IONOS Video Chat. This article will walk you through the process.

Please note

The maximum number of participants in a video conference is 5.

Downloading and activating the Jitsi integration

  • Log in to your Managed Nextcloud.
  • In the top menu bar, click on the circle icon with your profile photo or the first letter of your user name to open the submenu.
  • Select Apps.
  • Select Communication in the left-hand Managed Nextcloud menu. Various tiles with Managed Nextcloud apps are displayed in the detail area.
  • Click on the Download and activate button in the Jitsi Integration tile. The app is added to your Managed Nextcloud installation and a camera icon is displayed in the top Managed Nextcloud menu bar.
  • Click on the circle icon with your profile photo or the first letter of your user name in the top menu bar to open the submenu.
  • Select Administration settings > Administration > Jitsi.
  • Enter the address https://meet.videochat.ionos.com/ in the Server URL field (mandatory field).

Recommended Internet browser

Google Chrome is recommended for using Jitsi with Managed Nextcloud. Other internet browsers, such as Microsoft Edge, may be less stable when using Jitsi and Managed Nextcloud.

Conducting a video conference

Once you have activated the Jitsi integration, a camera icon is displayed in the top menu bar of your Managed Nextcloud installation. Click on it to create a conference room. Created conference rooms are saved and can be used again at a later date.

  • To hold a video conference, click on the triangle icon (Join) of the desired conference room.
  • Click on the Enter here button to activate the video conference.
  • Move the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen to display the video conferencing options.
  • Select the three-dot icon > Invite people to add participants to your video conference.

Please Note

The Invite people button (video conference options) does not currently work in an already active conference room due to a known Jitsi error. Therefore, invite the participants of your Jitsi conference manually as described in the following section.

Add conference participants manually

You have already created a conference room and started it using the Go here button:

  • Copy the URL of the conference room from the address bar of your Internet browser.
  • Share the copied link with the desired participants by email, messenger, or any way you'd like.

Quality problems during Jitsi conference

If you experience a loss of quality during a Jitsi conference or cannot see or hear other participants:

  • Make sure that all participants are using the newest version of Google Chrome.
  • Use a network that allows high bandwidths, e.g. vDSL or fibre optics.
  • Avoid unstable connections, e.g. via a mobile phone on a train.
