Valid for Web Hosting.

If you have forgotten the password for one of your FTP accounts, or would like to change it for security reasons, you can assign a new password in your IONOS account at any time.

  • Log in to your IONOS account.
  • Click on Menu > Hosting in the title bar. If you have several hosting contracts, then select the desired contract.
  • Locate the tile for your accesses. Depending on the hosting type(web hosting or ASP.NET hosting), this area is called differently:

    • Web Hosting: Click on Manage in the SFTP & SSH tile.
    • ASP.NET Hosting: Click on Manage in the FTPS tile.
  • You will now see an overview of your FTP users. Click on the three dots in the line of the desired user and select Show connection data.
  • Under the Password field, click on the link for (The password for this access).
  • Enter the new password.
  • Click on Save.

The password is updated immediately and is active for new connections within a few minutes.

Notes

  • For security reasons, the existing password cannot be displayed. If you no longer know it, you must assign a new one as described above.
  • Remember to store the new password in your FTP program (e.g. FileZilla) to avoid connection errors.
