Changing the FTP password (SFTP/FTPS)
Please use the “Print” function at the bottom of the page to create a PDF.
Valid for Web Hosting.
If you have forgotten the password for one of your FTP accounts, or would like to change it for security reasons, you can assign a new password in your IONOS account at any time.
- Log in to your IONOS account.
- Click on Menu > Hosting in the title bar. If you have several hosting contracts, then select the desired contract.
Locate the tile for your accesses. Depending on the hosting type(web hosting or ASP.NET hosting), this area is called differently:
- Web Hosting: Click on Manage in the SFTP & SSH tile.
- ASP.NET Hosting: Click on Manage in the FTPS tile.
- You will now see an overview of your FTP users. Click on the three dots in the line of the desired user and select Show connection data.
- Under the Password field, click on the link for (The password for this access).
- Enter the new password.
- Click on Save.
The password is updated immediately and is active for new connections within a few minutes.
Notes
- For security reasons, the existing password cannot be displayed. If you no longer know it, you must assign a new one as described above.
- Remember to store the new password in your FTP program (e.g. FileZilla) to avoid connection errors.
