HiDrive supports the secured FTP protocols FTPS and SFTP. This article explains how to use them using the free FTP program FileZilla as an example.
Requirements
- HiDrive Pro package or another HiDrive package in combination with add-on protocols
- Administrator permissions in HiDrive or administrator privileges granted by another HiDrive administrator
What does FTP, SFTP and FTPS mean?
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a protocol for transferring files. HiDrive allows the use and transfer of FTP exclusively in the secured variants SFTP and FTPS:
- SFTP stands for transfer with SSH FTP. It is also called Secure FTP.
- FTPS stands for the transfer of FTP with SSL or TLS. TLS (Transport Layer Security) is the name for a new variant of the SSL protocol (Secure Socket Layer).
Both transfer options are built into common file transfer programs and require only the specification of some parameters.

Activation in Your HiDrive Account
To enable FTP in your HiDrive account:
- Open the HiDrive web app in your browser.
- From the menu bar, select Settings > Access Rights and Protocols.
- Click the pencil icon.
- Activate FTP.
- Complete your entry with Save.
Using SFTP in FileZilla
- Start FileZilla and enter the data from the table above into the corresponding fields of the FileZilla menu bar.
- Click the Connect button. The server window on the right side of FileZilla shows the folder structure as it was created in HiDrive. The left window shows the file structure of your computer.
- Drag the desired data from the left window of FileZilla to the desired location in the server window (right) of FileZilla.
