Boxcryptor uses character lengths greater than 255 characters, which can lead to errors during the synchronisation process. Accordingly, we recommend that you only assign file names with less than 70 characters for files in HiDrive. This way, you can prevent the issue entirely.

Notes
  • Dropbox is acquiring Boxcryptor's IP technology. If you are already a customer, you can continue to use Boxcryptor the same as before. All existing users as well as existing customers will remain with the German Secomba GmbH and will continue to be serviced according to the terms of their existing contracts. All data will remain in the company's German data centers.

  • To encrypt your data, you can alternatively use the end-to-end encryption in HiDrive. This feature is available in the HiDrive Pro package and can also be added to other packages. Alternatively, you can use the Boxcryptor software to encrypt the contents of HiDrive folders.

Disabling File Name Encryption

If you use filenames with more than 70 characters, you must disable Boxcryptor's filename encryption:

  • Start Boxcryptor.
  • Open the Security tab in the Settings menu.
  • Deactivate Enable filename encryption.
