For IONOS email addresses and iPhone/iPod/iPad from iOS version 6 to iOS version 6.1.4

Here you can find out how to set up an email account on an Apple iPhone, iPod or iPad.

Requirement

You have a registered email address.

Proceed as follows:
  • Tap on Settings.
  • Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendar.
  • Tap on Add account.
  • Tap on Other.
  • Tap on Add mail account.
  • Enter your name for Name, your email address for Email and your password for Password. You can choose any Description you like.
  • Select the account type: POP3 or IMAP.

Note: Why is this setting particularly important?

If you only want to manage your emails locally on your mobile device, POP3 is the right choice. All emails are deleted from the server when they are retrieved and can no longer be retrieved with another email programme. Many devices are already set up for this by default.

We recommend that you set up the mailbox via IMAP on mobile devices. The emails remain on the server even after retrieval. If you would like to use POP3, use pop.ionos.co.uk as the "Hostname" under Server for incoming emails in the following step.

  • Enter the details of your email account.
Setting Your input
Name The sender name displayed in outgoing emails. You can enter any name.
Address Your complete email address
Description You can enter any description. The email account will be displayed on the device under the description selected here.
Server for incoming emails
Setting Your input
Hostname imap.ionos.co.uk
Username Your full email address
Password The password you chose when setting up your email account.
Server for outgoing emails
Setting Your input
Hostname smtp.ionos.co.uk
Username Your full email address
Password The password you chose when setting up your email account.

Please Note

  • The email account is automatically set up with SSL encryption. The device carries out the correct configuration in the background. You do not need to set anything manually.
  • SSL activation can also be checked later. For SMTP, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > [Select account] > Account > SMTP. The SSL settings for IMAP and POP can be accessed via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > [Select account] > Account > Advanced.
Last step:

Finally, select which data you want to sync and confirm this with Save.
